Muppet Goes to the Backcountry

Just a quick log while I get working... I'm going to be doing some field research for six weeks in the Great Lakes, USA area starting next month. Exciting and scary! I have never been camping before, so you bet I'm green and stupid.

Spent three hours in the REI today. God this is so expensive. I wish I had friends to borrow supplies from or good gear thrifting options. But I don't. So I have a hole in my wallet instead.

Current gear:

-Backpack - 65L Gregory Baltoro

-Extra rain cover, mostly because I need to return one

-Three stuff sacks

-One dry sack

-35F rated sleeping bag

-Self inflating sleeping pad

-Water filtration: Sawyer pump and Lifestraw

-Trekking poles

-First aid kit

-hubba solo tent (actually picking it up tomorrow) and associated tarp

-some skechers hiking boots that I broke in

-teva sandals

-medium brimmed hat that my dad gave me, but I might upgrade to a very wide brim

-f*cking expensive binoculars, required by prof

-some rite in the rain notebooks

-sunglasses, meds, etc.

-just a shit ton of socks

-three pairs of pants, two convertible

-basketball shorts

-baselayer shirts

-rain shell

-favorite hoodie (dysphoria hoodie, day to day hoodie... my friend designed it. very limited edition because they only sold like four of them in highschool. hoodie sweet hoodie)

Still need to figure out

-normal shirts..........I don't even have t-shirts besides the one literally on my body right now

-maybe trail runners in addition??

-water drinking system besides my one, one liter water bottle
